The Joint Programme Review and Planning Mission (JPRM) is a planning and consultative process, which aims to ensure that the collaborative programmes are in line with the national health policy and will strengthen the national capacity for achieving the health goals and aspirations. The JPRM document expresses a mutual agreement between WHO and the Government on the country’s health needs and priority areas of cooperation. During the JPRM, operational plans for various collaborative programmes are developed listing in detail the products or services and the activities to be delivered during the biennium.
Before the JPRM exercise, the preparatory phase consisting of joint meetings with the national counter parts were made to identify the national priorities, taking in to account the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS), the Fifth Five-Year National Development Plan and the Millennium Development Goals. According to the seven strategic directions of the CCS document, priority programme areas of collaboration were identified and communicated with the relevant national authorities. This leads to development of tangible workplans.
The JPRM team from WHO Regional Office and the Ministry of Health and Medical Education reviewed jointly the proposed workplans and after the discussions and review on the eight programme areas from eleven strategic objectives were approved for support. The list of approved programme areas is as follows:
The approved workplans endorsed by the WHO Regional Office and the Minister of Health and Medical Education, will be shared with the relevant programme managers to start implementation as of January 2012.
